Breaking News: Economic Downturn Leads To Santa Hat Shortage
Due to the recent economic collapse, thousands of UK Santas are left hatless.
New uniforms are traditionally offered to all front-line Santas in March, ready for the start of the new financial year in April. However, due to lack of stock, and the collapse of several small hat-producing contractors on which they relied, this year the new uniforms have turned out to be hatless. Santa management insist the cutback is necessary due to the current economic situation.
Millions of children could potentially be left giftless this coming Christmas, and millions of mince pies, carrots and glasses of brandy could potentially go to waste.
Union representatives demand a £5 million bail-out to keep the vital Santa industry afloat, and say that if the government doesn't take action immediately up to 15,000 jobs could be lost, primarily Santa positions but it is believed that a number of Elf positions are also at risk.

I put this one in the Humor section, so I make no claims about it's factual accuracy.... but I will say it's more The Onion than The Times :)
Having said that, there have been some similar stories in the news recently - staff on one of the rail networks refused to wear their new shirts as they claimed they were so thin as to be see-through, and they said this must have been due to penny-pinching by the network operator (although the operator denies this)!

Seriously? c'mon..... A Santa without a hat? What is the point? Let each of those people that made THAT decision get a piece of coal in their stocking. Especially in these times, let the children still have their Santas - fully clothed! Tracey : p
Good article Ben, but my goodness, who will be next to ask for a handout? Governments can't keep everyone afload, some have to keep the government afloat.
